Saturday Sewing

I found this little black dress in the oppie the other day, never been worn and made from a nice stretchy fabric. 

When I tried it on the neck line was too low perhaps that's why no one had worn it.

First thing to go was the bow on the tummy!

I rummaged around in my cupboard and found some black and white spotty cotton fabric and added a frill across the neck and then added a pocket in the same fabric.

I finished the neck line with 3 buttons and 1 button on the pocket

LBD

I was lucky enough to spend the weekend sewing with my Besties, unfortunately this doesn't happen often.

This little black dress was too long, the neck was too high and it had funny little capped sleeves.

With some help from said Besties we shortened the dress and cut away the sleeves and lowered the neck.

We bound the neck and sleeve edges, added "dust barts" (bust darts, OK so there was alcohol involved!) and added a pocket for interest.

We added a triangle and a few buttons.

Now I have a fabulous LBD.

Sewing

Inspired by Jody Pearl I have taken a simple straight black skirt, op shopped of course and added a panel.

And made it reversible.

I added a couple of darts to the top of the panel for 'easment' around the waist.

It buttons on with 3 buttons around the top.

It's like having 2 different skirts, I could make another panel and have 4 skirts!

I've finally finished my 80's party outfit, a bit of sparkly gold braid added to the jacket, I went with my friend Kath's motto, "You can never have enough Glitter!".

I also decided to add extra frills to the shirt, I'm sure Adam Ant would approve!

We still have a couple of weeks before the party and usually I'm stitching at the last minute but for a change I am organised!

Well I'm not sure how many clothes lines look like this today but I had to wash everything from yesterday, eeing so wet and today so hot if I left them I'm sure there would be some weird chemistry experiment going on in the plastic tubs!

Our invite to Art @ The Hart arrived the day before we flew to Melbourne so there wasn't much time to prepare.

I had hoped to decontruct some clothes but with the limited time frame I only really managed to embellish some cardies. I was really pleased with the finished result and more important it was great fun to do.

With our continued theme of recycling, we covered our own coat hangers and made magazine paper bags.

I think a nap may be in order now! 

Circles

I've added some pretty Japanese fabric circles to a chain store pinafore for a different look.

Sadly the photo of the pinafore got lost between here and the upload?? anyway I will try and find it.

This year is flying by so quickly we seem to be doing things that I am sure we did only a few weeks ago when actually they were 12 months ago. Prehaps there is too much routine in our lives, I hate having routines something my mother still has a lot of, certain things done on certain days and possibly the world could come to a grinding holt if there are any changes.

On the bright side with the year rolling along so quickly summer will be here soon.
