Melbourne

Now I'm going backwards!
We spent a few days in Melbourne last week mainly for the Head of the Yarra rowing but a bit of shopping never hurts either!
Nearly 200 extremly long row boats, eights, raced along the 8.5 km stretch of Yarra at timed intervals.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best for the end of November with lots of rain but Melbourne is always enjoyable.

We also spent some time at Federation Square and The Art Gallery.
Rabbits seemed to feature while we were there with this giant one and White Rabbit Ale, now I know what happened to Alice!

Row Row Row your Boat

Our fledgling rowing club attended it's first regatta on the weekend.
We arrived in Remark on the River Murray Friday afternoon to be greeted by calm water, a rarety when you live by the sea.

The Pinic (not serious) Regatta was held on Saturday and Sunday.
There were singles, fours and eights to be rowed. If your club couldn't fill a boat it didn't matter as you just jumped in if there was a spare seat.

I rowed in 3 races, sweep 4, quad 4 and mixed 4.
Unfortunately I missed out on seat in an eight this time.

We had a great weekend and met up with friends both old and new.
It may a few days for me to recover!!

It can't get any better

It was a beautiful day here today so we headed down the beach for a row.
What a perfect way to spend an afternoon, skimming across the water.
Yes that's really me out there!

Moments

The balancing act is proving to be a tad difficult and in my next life I think I would like to be Miss Lilly.
Prehaps taking up rowing 3 mornings a week, yes early mornings and it's not exersise although it does require an expansion of engery. I have an alergy to exersise, but gliding across the water in the early dawn is fabulous and all you can think about is exactly what you are doing at that moment. I sometimes forget to live in the moment, I'm too far back or I'm too far forward.
I know many of you are still in disbelief and falling off your chairs with laughter. The cheer squad grows daily with crys of "I have to see this"!  Maybe it's age, try before I die.
Hope everyone is enjoying a "moment".

Rowing

Come and try rowing they said, it will be fun.
I wondered how anything could be fun that required a 6am start and exersise!
I've never been very co-ordinated, always muddle my left and right, it's makes driving interesting.
I surprised myself by not only enjoying the experience, sometimes getting it right and staying balanced.
Saturday morning was spent in the single skulls rowing back and forth across the bay and I didn't have a swim.
When everything falls into place it feels and sounds right.

Sunday morning and another early start. Feeling very stiff and sore I went out in a quad skull, 4 rowers and one cox. I think this was more enjoyable than the single skull.
I was proven wrong and I did have fun but today is a very slow day!
